BREAKING BEVERAGE NEWS: 7-Eleven Slurpee Lites Are Here… and FREE This Wednesday!
I am THRILLED to announce that 7-Eleven is sucking calories out of its most popular beverage… The Slurpee Lite has arrived!

This will actually be the first time in Slurpee history that sugar-free varieties will be available nationwide. YES! Flavored by Fanta and sweetened with Splenda, each 8-oz. serving has just 20 calories.

New flavors will be rotating all summer long. First up is Sugar-Free Mango! In July, look for Sugar-Free Strawberry Banana; in August, Sugar-Free Cherry Limeade. Even better?

To launch these lightened-up slushes, this Wednesday (5/23) has been declared SlurpFREE Day! Participating 7-Eleven locations across the U.S. will be giving a free 7.11-oz. Slurpee to everyone who stops in from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. (while supplies last). I find this news VERY refreshing, and  can’t wait to claim my freebie!

Fancy peanut butter spreads to isles. I am a huge peanut butter fan and this is now at the top of my list of ‘why didn’t I think of that?’

For years I read with envy mainland food blogs that raved about Peanut Butter & Co., a New York City sandwich shop that specializes in untraditional and utterly delicious peanut butter flavors (think cinnamon raisin, maple, honey and even a spicy blend).

As tempted as I was to order a jar or five, my wallet insisted I stick with whatever the local grocer had to offer. Imagine my supreme delight when Safeway suddenly began stocking two of PB&Co.’s top flavors: Dark Chocolate Dreams and White Chocolate Wonderful.

Naturally, I bought two jars of the former, which tastes like a blended Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, only a zillion times better. PB&Co. prides itself on offering all-natural peanut butters without high-fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils or trans fats, which means you don’t have to feel quite as guilty when you indulge in the sumptuous chocolate-peanut butter blends.

A jar is $5.99 at Safeway or $3.74 at Target; find more PB&Co. offerings at

Here’s a thought, if you can’t find this where you live. Put some peanuts in your food processor. Pulse and then turn to ‘on’ for about five minutes to get them nice and smooth. Now add a broken up chocolate bar and keep blending. If you like it sweeter, add some honey.

If you don’t have any peanuts, just put a jar of peanut butter in the food processor (Cuisinart) and add the chocolate. Hmmm…

And if you like your peanut butter spicy, you could add a couple of splashes of Chilpotle sauce.
